Chapter 11: Building Key Pages

Building Key Pages is where your site shifts from “cool setup” to “professional business presence”. These pages are the backbone: visitors land here first, decide if you’re trustworthy, and take action (contact you, hire you, read your blog).

In early 2026 (around 5:47 PM IST in Hyderabad right now), best practices emphasize:

  • Static homepage for business/freelance sites (clean, branded, conversion-focused).
  • Mobile-first design (everyone browses on phone in India).
  • Fast loading (under 3 seconds), clear CTAs, trust signals (testimonials, local mentions like “Hyderabad-based”).
  • SEO basics (titles, headings, alt text).

We’ll build these step by step using native blocks (Gutenberg/Site Editor) or your page builder (Elementor if installed). Examples tailored to your freelance web design site (webliance.in): portfolio/services focus.

Homepage Setup (Static Page or Latest Posts)

Settings → Reading controls this (we set basics in Chapter 5).

Two options:

  1. Your latest posts (dynamic blog feed)
    • Good for pure bloggers/content sites. Homepage auto-shows recent posts (with featured images, excerpts).
    • Pros: Fresh content signal for SEO, easy updates.
    • Cons: Looks “bloggy”—not ideal for services/portfolio where you want control over first impression.
    • When to use: If your main goal is blogging about web design trends.
  2. A static page (recommended for freelancers/business in 2026)
    • Create a page (Pages → Add New → Title: “Home” or “Welcome”).
    • Settings → Reading → Your homepage displays: A static page → Homepage: select “Home”.
    • Optional: Posts page: select “Blog” (creates /blog/ for posts).
    • Pros: Full control—hero section, services showcase, testimonials, CTA button (“Hire Me”). Better conversions, professional look.
    • Cons: Need to update manually for freshness (add recent work section).

2026 best practice: Static for most non-blog sites (from Learn WordPress, Jetpack guides). Use Query Loop block on static home for “Latest Projects” or “Recent Tips” to mix dynamic content.

Example for you (static home):

  • Edit “Home” page in Site Editor or page editor.
  • Build sections:
    • Hero: Cover block (Hyderabad skyline background) → H1 “Professional Web Design & Development in Hyderabad” → Paragraph “Custom, fast, SEO-optimized sites that grow your business” → Button “Get Free Quote”.
    • Services overview: Columns block (3–4) → Icons + short desc (Web Design, SEO, Maintenance).
    • Portfolio teaser: Gallery or Query Loop (show latest portfolio posts).
    • Testimonials: Quote blocks or pattern.
    • CTA footer section: “Ready to launch? Contact now!”
  • Publish → Set as homepage.

Mobile preview: Ensure text readable, buttons tappable.

About, Contact, Services / Portfolio Pages

These are static Pages (Pages → Add New).

About Page

  • Purpose: Build trust—who you are, experience, why choose you.
  • Structure:
    • Hero: Photo of you + H1 “About Webliance – Your Hyderabad Web Partner”.
    • Bio: Paragraphs (your story, skills, years in field).
    • Skills/Tech: List or icons (WordPress, Elementor, SEO, Responsive Design).
    • Values: “Client-focused, on-time, budget-friendly”.
    • CTA: “Let’s chat about your project”.
  • Add: Image blocks (your workspace in Hyderabad), embed Google Maps if office-based.

Contact Page

  • Purpose: Easy way to get leads.
  • Best practices 2026: Simple form + multiple ways (WhatsApp huge in India), map, hours.
  • Structure:
    • Hero: H1 “Get in Touch – Free Consultation”.
    • Form: Use WPForms Lite (from Chapter 10) → Fields: Name, Email, Phone, Message, Project Type dropdown.
      • Embed shortcode in page (WPForms → embed).
      • If Elementor: Drag WPForms widget or use Elementor form (Pro).
    • Details: Phone, email, WhatsApp link/button (“Chat on WhatsApp”), address (if any).
    • Map: Embed Google Maps block (paste embed code).
  • Spam protection: Akismet + reCAPTCHA (WPForms has it).

Services / Portfolio Page

  • Services: List offerings with pricing/packages if ready.
    • Use Columns or Accordion blocks for expandable details.
    • Example: “Basic Website – ₹15,000–₹25,000” → Features list.
  • Portfolio: Showcase work (images + case studies).
    • Best: Gallery block or custom post types (but start simple).
    • Or: Create “Portfolio” category for posts → Use Query Loop block to display grid of featured images + titles + excerpts.
    • Example layout: Masonry gallery → Click opens single portfolio post (before/after, client testimonial, tech used).
    • Add filters later with plugins if needed.

Tip: Parent-child pages (e.g., Services as parent, Web Design as child) for sub-navigation.

Privacy Policy & Essential Legal Pages

Required in 2026 (especially India DPDPA 2023+, GDPR if global visitors, CalOPPA if US traffic). Non-compliance risks fines (up to ₹500 crore under DPDPA).

Must-haves:

  • Privacy Policy: How you collect/use data (forms, cookies, analytics).
  • Terms & Conditions / Terms of Use: Rules for site use, payments if any.
  • Disclaimer: “Not professional advice”, affiliate disclosures.
  • Cookie Policy (if using cookies beyond essentials).
  • Optional: Refund Policy (if selling), Affiliate Disclosure.

How to create:

  1. Plugins → Add New → Search “WP Legal Pages” or “Legal Pages” (free generators with templates for GDPR/CCPA/DPDPA).
    • Install one → Generate pages (customize name, email, etc.).
    • Or use Settings → Privacy (built-in generator) for basic Privacy Policy.
  2. Pages → Add New → Paste generated text → Title “Privacy Policy” → Publish.
  3. Footer menu: Add links (from Chapter 9).
  4. Link in forms/footer: “By submitting, you agree to our Privacy Policy”.

Example: WP Legal Pages → Generate “Privacy Policy” → Edit to add “We are based in Hyderabad, Telangana” + your email.

Pro tip: Not legal advice—review with lawyer for India-specific (DPDPA compliance). Use generators as starting point.

Blog / News Section

If static homepage: Create “Blog” page (blank) → Set as Posts page in Reading settings.

  • /blog/ auto-shows latest posts.
  • Customize: Edit Blog template in Site Editor (add hero “Latest Web Design Insights”, Query Loop for posts grid).
  • Categories/Tags: Organize (e.g., /category/hyderabad-seo/).
  • Add sidebar/widgets if theme supports (recent posts, categories).

Example flow: Post “Hyderabad Web Trends 2026” → Appears on /blog/, linked from homepage “Read Latest Tips”.

Launch checklist for these pages:

  • Mobile responsive (preview).
  • Fast load (compress images).
  • Clear headings (H1–H3).
  • Internal links (e.g., About → Services).
  • Add to Main Menu.
  • Test forms (send test message).

You’ve now got the core pages! Your site feels complete.
